A Girl's Best Friends

I have the best friends a girl could ask for. Not only are they kind, thoughtful and fun, they're very special girls. Clare is the softy, who loves to see people happy and gets over excited and over emotional rather easily. She's a darling, and loves to do shots. Candice is the funny one, the flirty one, the fabulous one! She's always flicking her hair or her lashes, encouraging us to drink copius amounts of Champagne and is my shopping partner in crime. Nic (the sister I never had) is the sensible one who keeps us all in check - while feeding us yummy food and even yummier wine - and she will listen to our problems before offering us sincere and good advice. She also fixes things - missing buttons, broken jewellery, customising oufits, etc, etc. Also, each of them likes a good girls' night out and will have your back no matter what

Together, they are perfect, and this is why they are my bridesmaids.

Together they are treating me to Jimmy Choos for my wedding day. Could they be more amazing?

Victoria, Victoria

Victoria Beckham recently launched the SS12 collection of her diffusion line Victoria, Victoria Beckham at Harvey Nichols in London with a red carpet appearance and dinner for some very special guests (style icon, Olivia Palermo, was in attendance wearing a blue dress from the SS12 collection).
Beckham's "little sister" line is more free spirited than the main line; think shorter hemlines, flirty details and fun silhouettes. Victoria, Victoria Beckham is more playful than Victoria Beckham the main line, and is available at a snip of the usual price - not that it affects the quality of her pieces.
With her own-name label, Victoria Beckham finally discovered her true talent; that she knows fashion and knows what makes women look good and thus knows how to produce clothes that continue to be received well by fashion press and customers alike. Whether or not Beckham enlists the assistance of a designer is not altogether important: I do believe that Beckham has the ideas and the designs (even if just in mind) that are the end result of what is a superb execution of delivering high quality, stylish clothes every season.

Beauty Busters: Eyelash Extensions

Around three weeks ago, I have eyelash extensions applied by the delightful Ashley Dunsmore. Ashley is currently studying at university, but a few years ago trained as an eyelash technician and now runs a home service part-time, during her studies.

Ashey is a lovely girl and a bit of a perfectionist - which makes her extremely good at applying the 50 individual lashes to each eye! She uses only silk eyelashes, of which she lays one individual lash on top of one natural lash with a professional glue. The false lash will last as long as the growth of the natural lash - e.g. once the natural lash grows and falls out, the false lash will fall out too. (One point to note is that you lose lashes more quickly from which ever side you sleep on because of the pillow against your face). The lash extensions should last between 4 and 6 weeks. I'm almost four weeks in and the lashes still look good, however, I've lost a few more from my left eye than my right, and I think that in another week or so I really need to get infills done to avoid the spidery effect.

The application took around 2 hours - this is a long time, however, Ashley applies around 20 extra lashes to each eye in comparison to salons, and as I said before, she's a perfectionist and wants your lashes to be just right.

First, Ashley tapes your lower lashes down so that the glue doesn't stick both lash lines together. She then removes any excess eye make up (you should not be wearing mascara, but she'll take off any foundation/cover up) and then asks you to close your eyes while she applies the lashes. This is a lengthy process, but worthwhile. Once she had finished the application, I was really impressed with end result: the lashes are really long and thick, and although they do look a bit obvious, the adhesive and overall effect is very natural - no black strip like you find on the temporary false lashes.

My favourite thing about the lash extensions is that there is no need to apply mascara (but you can do if you want to) so the amount of time I save in the morning is incredible - no curling, no mascara, no poking myself in the eye with the mascara wand because, hello, it's only 7 a.m. I also wake up looking bright eyed and this is always a good thing, and for evenings out things are so much easier and quicker and I feel much lower maintenance!

Here are some before and after pictures below, along with Ashley's email address if you would like to get in touch with her to make an enquiry or appointment. Initial lash extensions are £45 and take around two hours, while infills are £20 and take around an hour.

 Above: Before. (Excuse the tape!)

Above: After - clearly a much longer lash, with the length gradually increasing towards the outer lashes.

Beauty Busters: StriVectin

StriVectin is my new favourite skin product. The face scrub (blue label) I use twice a week and it is truly brilliant - it really buffs my skin and exfoliates the surface of my skin very well. Any signs of blemishes and spots are reduced when I use this scrub and it also smells really yummy, fresh and almost minty, but also a bit like a subtle aftershave that has lingered after a hug with a handsome man! This scrub preps the skin and smooths away dead skin cells and roughness in order to maximise the skin's receptivity to the other StriVectin (or any other brand, really) products. The product formula has been engineered with NIA-144 which has been discovered in DNA skin cancer research to accelerate the rebuilding of skin layers, bringing those fresh new skin cells to the top of the skin, leaving a really clear, fresh skin.

The StriVectin overnight resurfacing serum (green label) I use once a week. I apply it before bed, avoiding the eyes, and in the morning I wake up looking healthy and glowing with what feels like and looks like slightly younger skin. Put simply, it makes me look and feel better. The serum has been formulated to gently reduce surface imperfections while you sleep, evening skin tone and colour while improving the skin's overall appearance.

I get the feeling that StriVectin is a cult product range, but I hope my blog introduces it to some people who haven't heard of it or tried it before, because it really is one of the best skin ranges I've ever tried.

StriVectin available from Space NK.

Scrub is £37, Serum is £51. But it is so worth it and will last you around 6 months if used sparingly.

The One

So.... I'm engaged to be married! Four days after I wrote the post about being over the whole wedding thing, Mr Man proposed to me while he was snowboarding in France - he sent me this picture message. How romantic and original!

The feeling I got when I read the message, when I finally digested the message and the realisation hit that yes, he did want to marry me, was indescribable. It all happened in a matter of seconds, but I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest and flutter around the room on tiny fluffy white wings. I also felt a huge sense of pride: I'm the luckiest girl to have this man, who is kind and generous and handsome and spoils me rotten.

P.S. I said yes :)
